MUMBAI: Actor Salman Khan has reportedly sold his 1,650-sq ft apartment in the Sterling Seaface building at Worli for over Rs 6 crore.
Perched on the ninth floor with a scenic view of theArabian Sea, the three-bedroom-hall-kitchen flat was sold along with two car parking slots. The identity of the buyer is yet to be known.
Salman is now looking out for buyers for a similar sized flat on the sixth floor of the same 14-storey building.
Scriptwriter and Salman's father Salim Khan confirmed that they had almost concluded the deal. "I would not like to reveal the buyer's identity. There is nothing surprising in the sale. I had bought the flats on behalf of Salman, but he does not want to leave Bandra. So, I have to sell the flats and will have to invest in an apartment at Bandra," said Khan, declining to divulge the value of the flat.
Khan-on behalf of Salman-has apparently invested an undisclosed amount in an old building on Carter Road in Bandra and he plans to get the house redeveloped. However, he denied the development. "I keep buying homes for all my children. The report of purchasing an entire building is not true. We already had about three flats in Starlet building on Carter Road. The building was into redevelopment and we were asked to pay the construction cost. But there was a problem as some people objected to the redevelopment," said Khan.
According to property brokers, the senior Khan was lucky to have found a buyer who was ready to pay for the price he had asked for as the Worli-Lower Parel belt in central Mumbai is currently witnessing an array of constructions and buyers are in a position to bargain before striking a deal. While the Lodha Developers has started building the world's tallest tower, World One, in Shrinivas Mill, Shree Ram Urban Infrastructure has been constructing a 90-floor tower, Palais Royale, and IndiaBulls Real Estate has launched its Sky project. Going by what trade insiders have to say, there is a huge supply of 6,000 apartments, with a minimum size of 1,600 sq ft and a price tag of Rs 5 crore-Rs 10 crore.
"Even if we do not consider the underconstruction premium properties, look at the ads of ready flats in Beaumonde, Planet Godrej. Buyers are spoilt for choice and in a good bargaining position," said a broker. "Salman Khan is lucky to have found a buyer. Unlike last year, when we would sign 10 deals a month, we are barely scraping through one or two transactions."
